Skincare Regimen

“I try to keep my skincare routine as simple & chemical free as possible. I often wonder if bad skin was a thing generations ago. Think about photos you’ve seen of your parents & grandparents. I can confidently say their skin probably looked flawless without the chemicals being thrown at us today.”

Cleanser

I am currently using a Seamoss & Turmeric Face & Body Soap Bar by Natural Livity. The ingredients were an immediate attraction, I used the soap once in 2022 & it helped the inflammation of my breakout drastically. It removes makeup quickly on the skin, I also use the bar to clean my makeup brushes & Beauty Blenders! The way this soap lathers is unmatched! They also have a Moringa Yoni Bar, I’ve only used this on my face & I love it! All of her soaps are amazing!

I still use Kreyol Essence’s Haitian Moringa Facial Cleanser as well but not daily. FYI, I previously used Cetaphil, I liked it but it wasn’t actually making a difference. It was merely keeping my skin in the same state.

Exfoliator

Remove the dead skin! Our skin does this naturally but just as anything else, a helping hand doesn’t hurt. To exfoliate my face, I use my exfoliating pad &/or the Sonic Facial Cleansing Brush. For my body, I use my homemade sugar scrub at night about two-three times a week. If you’d like a free scrub sample, be sure to subscribe!

Toner

Toner can be used for multiple reasons but my main purpose is to even my overall skin tone, oil control & to remove any residue from my cleanser. I love using toner as a refresher as well—whether it’s while I’m working from home or before someone visits, if I’m not wearing makeup, toner will definitely be within arm’s reach. Products: Haitian Moringa Multi-fruit Toner. I’ve previously used: Witch Hazel, Aura Cacia’s Lavender Oil (be sure to dilute, see recipes here) or Apple Cider Vinegar (during breakouts).

Moisturizer

Even if you have oily skin like me, moisturizer is key (it took me a while to understand this). Kreyol Essence Black Haitian Oil has been my holy graiilll since the end of 2020, it absorbs evenly into the skin & controls the natural oils the skin produces. As a part of my morning routine, I use the Haitian Moringa Oil. Both are great to use in your hair as well!

Sunscreen

For far too long, I was ignorant of the fact that the sun was darkening my blemishes. In 2020, I began using the CeraVe Daily Facial Moisturizer & I still use it! It’s also a great base for my makeup. I plan to try the Black Girl Sunscreen soon, I have to read the ingredients a bit more. If you know me, you know how hesitant I am before switching to a new product, because when I break out… I break oowwwttt!! I plan to try Biossance soon, I follow Cashmere, CEO of Beauty Bakerie & she always has great recommendations & she reads aaalllll ingredients, closely. I highly recommend following her on Instagram.

Steam

I steam once/twice a week, for at least 10 minutes. No need to spend money on an expensive steamer. Boil a pot of water, carefully place it on a table, take a seat, drape a towel over your head & lean forward so your face is hovering over the steam. I usually steam on my masking days!
